Abstract: Virtual internships have emerged as a viable alternative to traditional internships, offering flexible and accessible opportunities for technical education students to gain practical experience. This study evaluates the effectiveness of virtual internships in providing hands-on training and enhancing employability in technical fields. The objectives are: (1) to assess the impact of virtual internships on skill development and professional growth, (2) to evaluate student and employer satisfaction with virtual internship experiences, and (3) to identify challenges and best practices for implementing virtual internships in technical education. A survey research design is utilized, justified by the need to gather comprehensive data from students, educators, and employers on their experiences with virtual internships. The sample size comprises 350 participants selected through purposive sampling to ensure diverse representation from various technical institutions and industries. The case study focuses on institutions in Lagos State, which have pioneered virtual internship programs. Findings indicated that virtual internships effectively provided students with practical skills, industry insights, and networking opportunities, despite some challenges related to technology access and communication. Both students and employers expressed high levels of satisfaction with virtual internships, noting their flexibility and relevance in the digital age. Recommendations include developing robust virtual internship frameworks, providing technological support to ensure accessibility, and fostering collaboration between educational institutions and industries to create meaningful virtual internship opportunities.
